Alberta Bill 2 coming into force

Alberta's Bill 2 (An Act to make Alberta Open for Business) will have sections of the bill that come into force as early as September 1, 2019. Some of the key highlights include changes to overtime provisions, holiday pay and minimum wage legislation.

The labour relations code will also have changes that may impact your dealership if you are unionized. These changes relate specifically to certification applications, adjudication and fair representation.

Section 23 of the Bill will allow for time off for overtime to be taken as straight time, unless it was earned prior to September 1, 2019.

As well, thew new provisions for general holiday pay will include new eligibility for general holiday pay whereby an employee is eligible for general holiday pay if the employee has worked for the same employer for 30 working days or more in the 12 months preceding the holiday. There are also clearer parameters around specific circumstances such as irregular schedules and also working on the holiday.

For information on how we can assist your dealership in implementing these changes please email us at info@dealerpilothr.com.
