COVID-19 Provincial Updates


In the ever-changing landscape of COVID-19, there will be a number of changes that impact regional approaches. These changes will also impact how Dealerships approach COVID-19 in the various jurisdictions. Here is an update on the various provincial strategies.


All jurisdictions have indicated that the continued reinforcement of solid hygiene practices of hand-washing, cleaning surfaces, not touching your face and coughing or sneezing in to the elbow are key to the prevention of spread. Additionally, all jurisdictions are recommending social distancing. This includes greeting people without a handshake, keeping a barrier of personal space and avoiding mass gatherings. Please remember that if you are ill with flu-like symptoms or may have been exposed to COVID-19 DO NOT attend to the emergency room or Doctor's office. The appropriate medical contact is public health ( see information for each province below)


Additional Measures by province:


BRITISH COLUMBIA- Recommends against all non-essential travel and self-isolate if you have traveled anywhere internationally. BC has also defined a mass gathering as 250 people.

Alberta- Alberta has indicated that mass gatherings should be cancelled. A mass gathering is 250 people or a group of 50 people that involves an international or high risk attendance group. All international travelers are to self-isolate.

Saskatchewan- It is recommended that all travelers self monitor and ensure that they can separate themselves in the event of illness. It is recommended not to attend a mass gathering OR long term care facility. The province has now announced the first presumptive case.

Manitoba- All travelers are to self-monitor. Manitoba now has announced confirmed cases of COVID -19.


Public Health can be contacted through Health Links-Info Sante at 204-788-8200 in Winnipeg or 1-800-315-9257 throughout the province.


Ontario- The province has set up multiple assessment centres for testing of travelers, please do not attend the emergency department for testing.The province has also announced publicly funded school closures until April 5th. This lay impact some parents attendance in the workplace. Please be reminded of the related protected leave entitlements in Ontario that may apply to your dealership. Additional leave options may include vacation time, sick time and general leave of absences depending on the individual situation and your dealership policies.

Quebec- The province has indicated that all travelers should self-isolate and that international travel plans should be cancelled. additionally, all mass gatherings of 250 or more that occur indoors should also be cancelled. The province has issued a closure of schools and daycares. Please familiarize yourself with the protected leave provisions of CNESST.

Newfoundland- The province is following federal guidelines and people who have traveled outside the province in the last 14 days should not visit hospitals, long-term care homes or personal care homes. There are no reported cases of COVID-19

New Brunswick- All travelers are to self monitor. The province has defined a mass gathering as 150 people or more.


Public Health can be contacted by calling tele-care at 811.


Nova Scotia- The province has indicated that anyone who has traveled internationally should not attend a long term care facility. All travelers should self- monitor.


Public Health can be contacted by dialing 811.


Prince Edward Island- The province has set up 2 testing sites for inbound travelers, please do not attend the emergency deportment for testing. All travelers (including those returning from the US) are to self-isolate.
